The Gloria Cocktail #2

I having to make drinks without lemon or lime juice because I don’t have any lemons or limes, and it surprises me how many drinks require one of these ingredients. Of course, there are still a lot of drinks that don’t require them. Flipping through my Trader Vic’s Bartender’s Guide, I came across this cocktail that features my favorite liqeuer, Campari. I was trying to stay away from gin drinks because all of my latest posts have been about gin, but I couldn’t resist trying another drink with Campari.

To make one, combine

  • 1 oz gin
  • 1 oz dry vermouth
  • 1/2 oz Cointreau
  • 1/2 oz Campari

Shake them with ice and strain into a chilled cocktail glass.

This drink is amazing. It has the strong Campari taste, but the Cointreau mellows the bitterness, and adds a hint of orange zest. The gin and vermouth are nearly nonexistent. I love the way the Campari takes over, even when it’s only 1/6 of the drink. Campari is not something to be messed with, this drink exclaims.

If you’re wondering, this drink is still around, but it isn’t that popular. My Bar, Your Bar has a post about it, and you can also find it on the Cocktail Database. Both of these versions include only 1/4 oz Campari and Cointreau, though. There are also lots of other Gloria cocktails out there, too.

Maybe one day we will go through all of them.
