A True Salt and Peppar Martini

I have been playing around with savory cocktails, and here is my new favorite. There are lots of recipes like it online, but I of course think mine improves upon them by adding more balance. We’re talking about hot, sour, and salty, all in one. The key is Absolut Peppar. Prepare a martini glass with salt and have it chilling while you stir together

  • 2 1/2 oz. Absolut Peppar
  • 1/4 oz. dry vermouth
  • 1/3 oz. olive juice
  • float pepper on top
  • drop in an olive

A fine savory cocktail with hints of the Bloody Mary due do its combination of heat and sour. First, if you have never tried Absolut Peppar, it’s a unique vodka. Citrus vodkas and all of the others seem pretty standard, but Peppar stands out, methinks. It is the essence of the Bloody Mary. It’s no coincidence that it was created just to make better Bloody Mary’s or that it was the first Absolut flavored vodka. Here’s the flavor: imagine vodka that has been steeped in all sorts of peppers, including black pepper. They say that it’s only jalapeno, bell, and chili peppers, but I taste some regular black pepper in there, too.

It makes a fine drink, and I like the savoryness of the Salt and Peppar Martini. In fact, I think when I use up this batch, I will move on to making my own Pepper vodka by steeping vodka in black peppercorns and chopped jalapenos. Perhaps a lot hotter, but much more DIY.

  1. Don’t try this one at home, Sarah! It’s not the one the ladies liked. See my previous post about the Salt and Pepper Martini (notice the spelling) that is the sweet and sour one the ladies enjoyed. Thanks for reading, and I hope you get to try it!
